Mar21 Valderramafinale

The European Tour’s end-of-season climax – the Volvo Masters – is 20 years old this year, and the anniversary has been marked with the news that the bumper finale will take place at top Spanish course Valderrama for at least the next three years, until 2010.
Valderrama has proved itself the perfect venue for the eagerly awaited final tournament of the campaign, and memorably hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup when home hero Seve Ballesteros led Europe to a famous victory.
It has provided plenty of thrills and spills down the years, none more so than last year, when India’s Jeev Milkha Singh (above) emerged a shock winner while Padraig Harrington pipped his Ryder Cup team-mate Paul Casey to the Order of Merit spoils.
Said Felipe Ortiz-Patino, Valderrama’s club president: “It’s an honour to follow in my father’s footsteps as president of Valderamma, which will be the perfect setting where Europe’s number-one player will again be decided. I’m sure it will produce one of the great sports events of the year.”
The 2007 Volvo Masters is scheduled to take place on November 1-4.
