Three of golf’s biggest names – Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els – have already signed up for the star-studded HSBC Champions event at the Sheshan International GC, Shanghai, on November 8-11.

The $5m event – described by players last year as ‘Asia’s major’ – features winners from four leading Tours and players ranked in the world’s top 50.

Three-times major champion Els will be teeing it up in the event for the first time and confirmed: “I’m really looking forward to playing in Shanghai, specially as I’ve heard great things about it from my colleagues on the Tour. With the strength of field and the substantial prizemoney on offer, it’s a very important event to include in my schedule as I bid to head back up both the World and European Tour rankings.”

Singh tied fifth in the inaugural tournament in 2005 while Spaniard Garcia revealed he is relishing doing battle in China where he will be hoping to finish 2007 on a high note.

However, one notable absentee will be world no. 1 Tiger Woods who is unable to make the trip owing to personal and professional scheduling issues.
