Mar9 Clarke bags degree

He may have missed the cut in this week’s Singapore Masters, but at least Darren Clarke was comforted by his latest award – an honorary degree from the Queen’s University Belfast in his native Northyern Ireland. Clarke received the award in recognition of his outstanding services to professional golf.

Clarke is a hugely popular figure in the world of golf and has played starring roles in the last five Ryder Cups: who can ever forget his amazing contribution to Europe’s triumph at the K Club last year following the tragic death of his wife Heather?

Clarke has won ten European Tour titles, including the 2000 WGC-Accenture World Match Play when he conquered Tiger Woods in the final. He will collect his honorary degree at a special ceremony at Queen’s University in July.

The Irishman is battling to get his game back into shape but had no joy in Singapore where he carded disappointing rounds of 74 and 73 for a three-over-par return.
