‘Worthwhile drives’ is a new and unique golfing experience and is certainly living up to its billing.

Based in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, ‘Worthwhile drives’ is basically a do-it-yourself golfing break centred around Coastal Cottages, the cottage holiday company who have over 550 cottages throughout Pembrokeshire on their books.

But these are no ordinary cottages – they’re all either four or five star standard with all mod cons and can cater for couples as well as large groups.

TG recently put ‘worthwhile drives’ to the test and had a whale of a time. We were based on the edge of the village of Lydstep just a couple of hundred yards from the dramatic Pembrokeshire coastline, just a few miles down the road from the popular seaside resort of Tenby.

It proved the ideal get-away-from-it-all location though a bit off the beaten track and far too quiet as far as a group of blokes are concerned. Having said that, lively Tenby was a short drive away and the big bonus about ‘worthwhile drives’ is that there’s an assortment of accommodation and locations available. You just need to pick the right one for you and your party…

But if you fancy flexibility and coming and going as you please, this could be the right golfing break for you with the golfing action taking place at the fine parkland layout at Trefloyne: watch out for the greens – they’re tiny and lightning quick!

Summed up Matthew Evans, Coastal Cottages’ chief executive: “The aim is to offer good value golf together with freedom and quality facilities.”

That statement hits the nail bang on the head, specially when you consider the following sample ‘Simply Golf’  break: Up to four nights accommodation in a five star cottage and two rounds of golf, including bacon roll and coffee on arrival and a meal after the round. Price: from £89 per person.

Pembrokeshire incidentally is the home of Wales’ oldest course, the classic, must-play links of Tenby. A game here will cost extra.
