Steven Gibson has just landed one of golf’s most coveted roles – Director of Golf at prestigious Surrey club Wentworth which hosts next week’s BMW PGA Championship.
Gibson (33) will be moving to Wentworth on June 19 after three-and-a-half years as head pro at another leading club, The Oxfordshire.
He said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at The Oxfordshire very much, but this is a great chance for me to make a mark at a new club.
“The Oxfordshire’s a great course and the club has really come on in the last five years.
“Since Paul Gibbons has taken over it has become a very accessible, friendly club. Before it was the sort of place people might have aspired to play but now it’s open to everyone.”
Gibson clearly relishes a challenge and in Director of Golf terms they don’t come much bigger than his new role…
