Nick Faldo has chosen Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul McGinley as his Assistant Captains for next year’s Ryder Cup.
In his first press conference as Europe’s leader, Faldo said he wanted two active players as his “eyes and ears” on the ground.
Speaking at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, he said: “Their character and stature is very important. I know both of their main goals is to make the team, and if they do then I will need to come up with two more names!
Olazabal said: “It’s a great honour from a great captain, but my main aim it to play at Valhalla.”
McGinley added: “I am thrilled to be involved in my fourth Ryder Cup, as a player or with Nick. I will help in any way I can.”
Faldo said: “Everything has changed since my last Ryder Cup – it’s all spandex, white belts and big buckles nowadays! So it’s important to me to have two current players at my side in the USA.”
Last year’s successful Ryder Cup captain, Ian Woosnam, has withdrawn from this week’s big event with a back injury.
