May31 Belfrybirthday

The world-famous Brabazon course at The Belfry celebrates it’s 30th birthday this month (June).

The prestigious West Midlands venue has certainly come a long way since being miraculously transformed from 15 potato fields into one of the world’s top golfing complexes.

Forever indelibly linked with staging the Ryder Cup and some of golf’s biggest events – in September it hosts the Quinn Direct British Masters – the Brabazon was the handiwork of Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss.

Said Alliss: “It’s difficult to imagine as I look across the course today that over 30 years ago there were less than 40 trees on the whole acreage!”

The anniversary celebrations kicked off earlier this week with a special birthday bash when guests tucked into a special fairway feast barbecue while toasting the course with champers and birthday cake.

The Belfry is also the home of the PGA National and Derby courses with the former – one of only three PGA branded courses in Britain  – celebrating its 10th birthday this month.
