New Montgomerie Course Hosts Celebrity Golf Match

The new Montgomerie golf course at Riffa Views will be hosting a Charity “Skins” match where four golfing celebrities including Colin Montgomerie himself will compete for an impressive prize of US $252,000.

The Celebrity golf match will take place on 15 November as the finale of the opening of the new Championship course with well-known golf pros from all over the globe taking part, including: Colin Montgomerie on behalf of Europe; Camilo Villegas will be representing the Americas; Retief Goosen will stand for Africa and Michael Campbell for Australasia.

Preceeding the celebrity match will be a series of events running from 13 to 15 November to mark the new course opening starting with the official opening of the course by Montgomerie himself. The following day sees a busy day of golfing events with Celebrity golf demonstrations by international golf pros followed by a Golf trick show show hosted by Geoff Swain & Kevin Carpenter and finally a Celebrity match on the Academy course.

The Royal Golf Club will not be fully playable until 1 January 2009 and only fully paid 2009 members and invited guests will be eligible to play the Championship course between the course opening in November and the end of this year. Details of 2009 membership options and prices will be available on 15 October.

Golfers who become members before the end of 2008 will be able to enter various select events which will take place in the final six weeks of the year including a two-day National Day Tournament and handicap improving competitions.

In addition to the opening of the Championship course at Riffa Views, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa’s golf course in Safriya will be hosting three charitable golf events beginning in October. Firstly is the third Think Pink Ladies Charity Golf Day on 27 October, secondly, The Rotary Club of Manama golf tournament on 31 October and lastly, the long-standing American Mission Hospital Island Classic between 6 and 8 November.
