Highlight of the opening round ties in Thursday’s HSBC World Match Play Championship at Wentworth is the tussle between six-times champion Ernie Els and 1999 winner Colin Montgomerie.

It’s a crunch 1st round encounter, an epic battle of the big guns with the South African starting favourite to progress into the next stage where either Niclas Fasth or young Argentinian Andres Romero will await.

Meanwhile, reigning champ Paul Casey will fancy his chances of knocking over American Jerry Kelly and if successful the Englishman will earn a 2nd round tie against Retief Goosen or Angel Cabrera.
