Rutland County Golf Club can lay claim to having one of the UK’s most exciting young golf prospects on its books after seeing one of it’s youngsters win a prestigious competition.

Rutland member Michael Prestwick, 11,  won the HSBC Wee Wonder Open at St Andrews after qualifying through a rigorous series of regional events.

The eight handicapper picked up a golf bag from Colin Montgomerie and a trip to this week’s HSBC World Match Play Championships at Wentworth for his efforts.

Said Michael: ‘It was fantastic to win after such a hard qualifying schedule and I want to thank Rutland for helping me with practicing for it.’
