Pearl Valley Golf Estates, will play host to one of South Africa’s flagship events, the South African Airways Open, for the next three years.
The Jack Nicklaus signature golf course is considered one of South Africa’s finest, situated amidst the Western Cape at the base of the Drakenstein Mountains.
The course will welcome some of the world’s finest golfers to what is the second oldest National Open in golf, with its first event having been played in 1893. Big names who will descend on the picturesque venue on Dec 13th – 17th 2007, will include defending Champion Ernie Els, US Open Champion Angel Cabrera, South Africa’s own Retief Goosen and former world number 1 Greg Norman.
Both the South African Golf Association and the European Tour are delighted with the venue. “Pearl Valley is widely regarded as one of the finest tests in the game. A testament to this is the fact that it should be selected to host one of the country’s “Majors” only four years after opening” stated Neale Kunhardt, President of the South African GA.
George O’Grady Chief Executive of The European Tour said “The European Tour has visited South Africa for more than a decade now and our members will enjoy the chance to return to the beautiful Western Cape to compete at the superb Jack Nicklaus-designed signature course.”
The South African Airways Open will be the second of two championships to be played in South Africa during the 2008 season and Pearl Valley Golf Estates will no doubt provide unrivalled course quality, ideal facilities and a stunning back drop to what is surely on its way to becoming one of the top golfing destinations worldwide.
“LeisureCorp, and the team at Pearl Valley, have created a truly world class golf facility. Hosting this prestigious event demonstrates what an impressive resort Pearl Valley has become in such a short period of time,” said Bruce Glasco Senior Vice President & Managing Director of Europe, Middle East & Africa at Troon Golf.
