In part four of our Tiger Woods’ top golf tips series we look at how manages to avoid three putting and therefore why he wins so many golf tournaments.
Tiger Wood’s lag putting is world class and yet it isn’t just about hours of practice on the putting green- there are a few secrets he uses to ensure his putting is consistent.
Here’s Tiger’s golf lesson on lag putting:
1. RIGHT HAND CONTROLS
Lag putting begins and ends with proper golf swing mechanics. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a rotational putter like Tiger Woods or a linear (straight back and through) putter like some others who can really roll their golf ball well. You should position your eyes directly over the golf ball, hold your head in place and keep your wrists from breaking down. Tiger does this with his right hand.
2. RELEASE THE PUTTERHEAD
Some players keep the putter low back and through. Tiger has a pendulum stroke, where the golf club comes off the ground. His right hand controls his stroke. He has had posture problems in the past, so he concentrates on staying tall through impact. He allows the putterhead to release naturally, and impact feels very soft, as if the golf ball just gets in the way.
