Retief Goosen and Darren Clarke will both be using the TaylorMade TP golf balls during the 2007 season.
Goosen, the world number eight, will switch between the TP Red and TP Black depending on the conditions of the course, while Ryder Cup hero Darren Clarke will be using the TP Red. To date, the only other big names to have made the switch are Sergio Garcia and the resurgent Justin Rose, who won the MasterCard Masters using the TP Black.
The switch by two of the best players in the world comes following extensive product testing over the winter period. The switch for Darren in particular was a huge step as he had used Titleist balls for his entire life.
“To change golf balls having used one particular kind for my entire career was a significant decision for me, said Clarke, “but I wouldn’t have switched unless I was confident that it could help me improve my game and become a better player”.
The high performance TaylorMade balls were launched amid great fanfare last year, but despite offering good performance (and decent results in TG tests) the would-be Pro V1 beaters have so far struggled to establish themselves in the Titleist-Callaway dominated market.
The TaylorMade TP Red and TP Black have an RRP of £40.00 per dozen.
