What we say...

Cobra’s LTDx fairways saw them ask real-world golfers what they wanted. Unsurprisingly, more distance, more accuracy and better forgiveness were the answers.

So Cobra’s designers turned the clock back to 2016 and the brand’s King LTD range, evolving it into the LTDx family for 2022.

The LTDx woods feature PWR-COR Technology, which uses multi-material internal and external weights to reposition as much weight low and forward as possible to lower spin and deliver powerful ball speed upon impact.

The tech in the Cobra Golf King LTDx fairway woods.

Using machine learning and CNC machining, Cobra’s engineers have replaced the E9 face with a new variable thickness H.O.T Face (Highly Optimized Topology) that is precision tuned for speed.

Using data from thousands of impact simulations, Cobra have optimised thicknesses in different zones to maximize ball speed across a larger area of the face. These zones create visual peaks and valleys that resemble a topology map, hence the design name.

Cobra’s engineers have moved the CG low and forward for faster ball speed, while increasing MOI for more stability and forgiveness.

The LTDx fairway metals come in progressive shapes and progressive rail designs to offer optimiSed performance based on the golfer’s swing characteristics.

Let’s take a closer look at each model.

PWR-COR utilises tungsten and aluminum to position as much weight low and forward to increase ball speed, while the H.O.T. FACE Technology, as found in the drivers, uses 15 zones with optimised thicknesses to maximize speed across the face.

An adjustable weighting system features a 12g and a 3g weight that can be positioned in the heel or toe to fine tune trajectory and spin.

The most forgiving of the three Vobra fairways, the Max combines the fast and forgiving performance of the LTDx with additional draw bias for those that need slice correcting power.

An adjustable weight system features 12g and 3g weights that can be positioned in the back or the heel to fine tune the amount of draw bias.

Cobra LTD X Max fairway wood: Test verdict

The beauty of hitting every major fairway wood on the market within the same test is seeing how all the leading competition compares in data, it also means players can come to their own conclusions between which models might best suit them.

Whilst the Cobra King LTDx Max wasn’t our fastest or longest we felt at reasonable speeds it will be super easy to launch from the turf.

We also love the head shape, and how the model sits at address. Add to that how the LTDx Max produced our 3rd best carry distance drop-off (10yds / 4.2%), and we reckon it’s a very good fairway wood for club golfers this year.
