What’s In The Bag: Davis Thompson

What golf clubs does Davis Thompson use? Today’s Golfer takes a look inside the bag of the PGA Tour winner.

Davis Thompson turned professional in 2021 and joined the Korn Ferry Tour. After a successful 202 season which saw him finish 16th on the points list – enough to earn him a PGA Tour card for the 2023 season.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

Fast forward to the 2024 PGA Tour season and the American earned his maiden victory on the PGA Tour at the 2024 John Deere Classic. As well as lifting the trophy at TPC Deere Run in 2024, Thompson’s also enjoyed two T2 finishes and a top-10 finish at the US Open.

Davis Thompson 2024 John Deere Classic Champion

Before Thompson turned professional in 2021 he enjoyed a successful amateur career where he represented the Georgia Bulldogs at the collegiate level. During his time playing at the University of Georgia, he won SEC Player of the Year in 2021.

As an amateur, Thompson also won the 2020 Jones Cup Invitational and reached number one in the World Amateur Golf Rankings on two separate occasions, first in 2020 and then in 2021.

Having already seen Thompson carry his amateur form into his professional career it must surely only be a matter of time before he adds a second victory on the PGA Tour to his resumé. Let’s take a look at the clubs Thompson is relying on to get the job done in 2024…

What driver does Davis Thompson have in the bag?

Davis Thompson's big stick is a Titleist TSR3 driver (9°) with a Mitsubishi Diamana DF 70 TX shaft

Thompson made the switch to the Titleist TSR3 driver at the 2024 Mexico Open in February. He's kept the TSR3 in the bag since then, having previously played with the Ping G430 Max 10K driver.

What fairway woods does Davis Thompson play with

Davis Thompson carries a Ping G430 Max fairway wood (15°) with a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K White 80 TX shaft and a Ping G430 Max fairway wood (21°) with a Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 90 TX shaft

Unlike the Ping G430 driver that was replaced in the bag by a Titleist TSR3 driver, Thompson has kept his Ping G430 Max fairway woods in the bag. The American has two G430 Max fairway woods in play - a 15° 3-wood and a 21° 7-wood.

What irons does Davis Thompson carry?

Davis Thompson slots in his bag a Ping i210 iron (4) with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid Tour Issue X100 shaft

Price: $187.50 / £166.50
Continuing with Ping, Thompson carries just the solitary Ping i210 4-iron. The combo set played by Thompson isn't quite as common as other combo sets we see on Tour, considering he jumps from a Ping 4-iron to Titleist for the rest of his iron set.

The i210 has been discontinued since Ping announced the i230.

Davis Thompson plays with a set of Titleist 620 MB irons (5-9) with True Temper Dynamic Gold Mid Tour Issue X100 shafts

As already mentioned, Thompson fills out the rest of his iron set with Titleist irons. His model of choice is the Titleist 620 MB irons. Thompson plays a six-iron-set because he has a 46° wedge in place of a pitching wedge. Therefore, he has a set of 620 MB irons from 5 to 9-iron.

What wedges does Davis Thompson use?

Davis Thompson carries a Titleist Vokey Design SM10 wedge (46°-10°F) with a True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 shaft and Titleist Vokey Design SM10 wedges (50°-8°F, 54°-8°M, and 60°-4°T) with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts

The Titleist Vokey Design SM10 wedges have been an absolute hit on Tour, and they've clearly gone down a treat with the 2024 John Deere Classic champion who finds place for four of them in his bag. Thompson starts his wedge set with a 46° which he carries instead of a pitching wedge and he moves up in 4° increments, rounding out his set with a 60° lob wedge.

Price: $199.99 / £199.00
The Odyssey #7 is one of the most iconic putters in the game, and it's the choice of Thompson. Odyssey is the No.1 putter on Tour, and the #7 has had some impressive victories throughout its time including the 2024 John Deere Classic where Thompson birdied five of his first six holes on Sunday at TPC Deere Run.
