What’s In The Bag: Leona Maguire

What golf clubs and ball does Leona Maguire use? Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag of the first Irish winner on the Ladies European Tour

Leona Maguire is a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour and a victor on the Ladies European Tour (LET). Maguire became the first Irish national to win on the LPGA Tour when she emerged victorious at the 2022 LPGA Drive On Championship on her 50th LPGA Tour start.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

A second LPGA Tour win followed in 2023 with a two-stroke victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic. The County Cavan hero also became the first Irishwoman to win on the LET when she sealed victory at the 2024 Aramco Team Series – London.

Maguire had a glittering amateur career, she held the record for the most weeks at the top of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (135), receiving the Mark H. McCormack Medal three years running – that record has since been broken by American, Rose Zhang (142 weeks).

The Irishwoman has further impressive credentials on her resume, holding the record for the lowest ever score in the final round of a Major championship (61), and broke the all-time rookie points records in either the Solheim or Ryder Cup with a total of 4.5 points.

Let’s dive into what’s in the bag of Leona Maguire.

What driver does Leona Maguire use?

Leona Maguire uses a Ping G430 LST driver (10.5°) with a Graphite Design Tour AD HD-5 shaft

At the top of her bag, Leona Maguire opts to play with the low-spinning, and ultimately, least forgiving Ping driver from their range of G430 models. The G430 LST is a very popular model on Tour which is also in play for Linn Grant, Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala, and many more Ping staffers.

The G430 LST is a good option for amateur golfers who need to lower their spin or for golfers with good ball-striking abilities because the sweet spot isn't as large in the LST as it is in the other G430 heads. Luckily, that isn't something Maguire has to worry about.

What fairway woods does Leona Maguire use?

Leona Maguire uses Ping G430 Max fairway wood (15°) with a Graphite Design Tour AD CQ-6 shaft

The Irish star carries three fairway woods in her golf bag, the first of which is a Ping G430 Max 15° fairway wood. Ping are notorious for their fairway woods, mostly because of how easy they are to hit. Maguire opts for the Max fairway wood head in her G430 3-wood which is the most forgiving of the G430 heads.

Leona Maguire uses Ping G425 Max fairway woods (17.5° and 23.5°) with Mitsubishi Tensei Orange 65 Stiff shafts

Price: $249.98 / £219.00
As previously mentioned, Maguire carries three fairway woods. Accompanying her G430 Max 3-wood is a Ping G425 Max 5-wood, and somewhat surprisingly, a Ping G425 Max 9-wood. With two extra Max model fairway woods in the bag, it's evident that Maguire is a fan of metals. However, a 9-wood (23.5°) probably isn't going to be a staple in many Tour player's bags. That being said, I know of plenty amateur golfers that would benefit from ditching their 4-iron for a 9-wood or 4-hybrid.

What hybrids does Leona Maguire use?

Leona Maguire uses Ping G425 hybrids (26° and 30°) with Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro Blue 80 Stiff shafts

Price: $219.98 / £179.00
There aren't many professional golfers that carry hybrids to replace their 5-iron and 6-iron, but Leona Maguire does. In place of long irons, the two-time LPGA Tour winner slots in a Ping G425 26° and 30° hybrid.

What irons does Leona Maguire use?

Leona Maguire uses Ping i230 irons (7-UW) with KBS Tour TGI 80 shafts

Price: $187.50 / £164.50
Considering Maguire was a huge fan of the Ping i210 irons it's hardly surprising to see that she has replaced them with the updated i230 irons. Ping's i230 irons are incredibly popular on Tour and in the amateur game. The Irishwoman carries a set of i230 irons from 7-iron through to UW (gap wedge) before moving into her wedges.

What wedges does Leona Maguire use?

Leona Maguire uses Titleist Vokey SM7 wedges (55°, 60°)

Many golf fans might find it surprising to hear the Maguire carries Titleist Vokey SM& wedges considering they are a good few years old now. However, if you're happy with some equipment in your golf bag, why would you change it?

In the same breath, I don't think anyone would be shocked if Maguire all of a sudden swapped her current wedges for the newest Vokey wedges - the SM10s. There are countless pro golfers gaming these wedges and if you're in the market for Vokey wedges they're definitely the front runners to consider.
