What’s In The Bag: Sepp Straka (June 2025)

Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag of Sepp Straka, the 2023 Ryder Cup rookie and first Austrian golfer to win on the PGA Tour.

Jump To: WITB Straka

Sepp Straka made history at The Honda Classic as he took full advantage of a final-round meltdown from Daniel Berger and an unlucky weather break for Shane Lowry to win his first PGA Tour title at the PGA National Resort & Spa.

Having become the first Austrian golfer to earn a PGA Tour card in 2018, Streka is now the first Austrian to win on the Tour. He also represented his country at the 2020 Olympics, finishing in a tie for 10th in Tokyo.

Sepp Straka won The Honda Classic to become the first Austrian golfer to win on the PGA Tour.

Straka’s career has continued to go from strength to strength since his 2022 breakthrough, winning a second PGA title at the 2023 John Deere Classic with a two-stroke victory in Illinois.

The win catapulted Straka into the top 30 players in the Official Golf World Rankings and was a timely reminder to European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald ahead of his September Captain’s Picks.

A T2 finish at the Open Championship swiftly followed and Straka was subsequently named as one of Donald’s six picks, making his debut for Team Europe at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome later that month.

Straka looked to continue his Ryder Cup-earning form into 2024, performing admirably through the season, finishing with a 27th final position in the FedEx Cup. Although winless for the season, Sepp still managed to rack up 17 out of 24 cuts made, including 11 Top-25 and 4 Top-10 finishes throughout the year.

Fast forward through the winter, and Straka started his 2025 season strong, with a T15 and T30 at The Sentry and the Sony Open, respectively, before securing his third PGA Tour victory at The American Express, beating Justin Thomas by two strokes.

Aside from two missed cuts, one at The Genesis Invitational and then at The Masters, Sepp failed to finish worse than his T30 position at the Sony up until he achieved his second victory of the season, beating out fellow Srixon staffer, Shane Lowry, as well as besting Just Thomas for a second time this year to the title at the Truist Championship.

Having hit an impressive 211-yard bunker shot to 20ft from the pin, Straka knocked in his two-putt for what ended as another two-shot win over his fellow European teammate, who played alongside him in the final round. 2025 has seen Sepp Straka double his success count on the PGA Tour, likely helping to secure him a place already at Bethpage Black in September, the location of the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Straka is, and has been for some time, a Srixon staff player, carrying the brand’s bag, wearing a Srixon cap, and using their ZXi7 irons, Cleveland wedges, and a Srixon ball.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s in Sepp Streka’s bag.

What driver does Sepp Straka use?

Sepp Straka uses a Callaway Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max driver (9°) with a Fujikura Ventus VeloCore+ 60g X shaft

Straka switched to one of Callaway's latest models, the Ai Smoke, during the 2024 season after having been in TaylorMade models for quite some time. The model he chose to put into the bag, after testing, was the Triple Diamond Max, a tour-only model that offers something a little different from the retail Triple Diamond.

Effectively a middle ground between the standard Max model and the Triple Diamond head, the TDM is a slightly more forgiving option for the pros that want to game the shape of the Triple Diamond for a looks preference.

While it was launched to the public, it had extremely limited stock and has since sold out, although we still loved the Ai Smoke Triple Diamond and Max heads on their own.

What fairway wood does Sepp Straka use?

Sepp Straka uses Callaway Ai Smoke Triple Diamond fairway woods (3-15°, 7-20°) with Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Red 80 TX (3-15º) and Orange 80 TX (7-20º) shafts

Callaway's Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Fairway Wood (for the sake of my fingers, we'll be shortening this name to the TD or Triple D going forward) is designed as a 'Players' model of fairway in the Callaway line-up.

What we mean by that is that the Triple D offers a reduced offset and weight-forward setup. This combination makes the club less forgiving for the typical amateur golfer, as the TD becomes harder to square up during the downswing and can lead to a miss further right (for right-handed golfers).

If you're someone who either misses left or has the strength to square the face, though, the TD has everything a golfer could need with high ball speed, easy launch, and super-low spin.

What irons does Sepp Straka use?

Sepp Straka uses a combo of Srixon ZXi5 (4,5) and ZXi7 Irons (6-9) with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts

The ZXi7, with its very Japanese high-toe shape, is a simple but very classy beauty, something with near-universal appeal, finding itself in the hands of some notable players, both Srixon staffers and non-staff players.

The ZXi series features Srixon's brand-new proprietary 'i-Forged' technology, hence the little stylized 'i' in the name, as well as a switch to 1015 Carbon Steel, boosting the buttery-soft feel at impact that Srixon are becoming well-known for.

Straka chooses to pair a more forgiving head in the ZXi5 long-irons with his ZXi7 mid- and short-irons, something that his Ryder Cup partner, Shane Lowry, also does, showing us amateurs that we shouldn't be afraid of going down to something more helpful as we get into the harder-to-be-consistent-with parts of the bag.

What wedges does Sepp Straka use?

Sepp Straka uses Cleveland RTZ Tour Rack wedges (46°, 52°, 56°, 60°) with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts

Cleveland has one of the most prestigious histories in the game for the making of great wedges, and the RTZ is no different. Built from an entirely new alloy, something Srixon/Cleveland are labelling as 'Z-Alloy,' the material has been designed to dramatically increase the time it takes for the wedge face to wear down, giving each club a longer lifetime.

It's also even better at resisting rusting, due to the chemical makeup, which is perfect for golfers who play in humid conditions like those in the UK or the American Northwest.

Straka actually chooses to play the Tour Rack version of the Cleveland wedges, which is a retail-available model in an essentially raw finish to allow for tighter cutting of grooves and milling on the face.

The firmer XV is for 100+mph swing speeds and is played on tour by Hideki Matsuyama, Shane Lowry, Keegan Bradley, and Sepp Straka.

The 2023 model has a new three-piece construction, and it’s designed to fly higher and further than the standard Z-Star. Srixon like to say if your birdies start with a big tee shot then this is probably the ball for you.

Compared to the Z-Star Diamond the XV generates a little less mid-iron and wedge spin, but is also a little longer from the tee.
