What’s in the bag of six-time European tour winner and Major champion Shane Lowry? Today’s Golfer reviews what’s in the bag.

Jump To: WITB Lowry

Lowry has enjoyed a fantastic few years, winning his first Major title at the 2019 Open at Royal Portrush and making a real impact on his Ryder Cup debut despite Europe’s defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

Now the Irishman has added the 2022 BMW PGA Championship, the DP World Tour’s flagship title, to an impressive CV that includes multiple wins on the European Tour and a PGA Tour title at the WGC Bridgestone International.

Shane Lowry lifts the trophy after winning the BMW PGA Championship.

His single-shot victory over good friend Rory McIlroy and Ryder Cup teammate Jon Rahm at Wentworth lifted the 36-year-old back inside the world’s top 15 and capped a superb season. The BMW PGA was also the first qualification event for the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Despite no further wins in 2023 however, Lowry’s steady form saw him finish ninth on the World Points List and 11th on the European Points List, which combined with his prolific team experience, earned him selection for a second Ryder Cup as one of Luke Donald’s picks.

Lowry also boasts an impressive record in Major championships recording a T2 finish at the US Open, T3 at the PGA Championship, and T4 in the Masters, in addition to his 2019 Open win.

Shane Lowry won The Open in 2019.

Lowry is a Srixon/Cleveland staff player but, like many players, isn’t tied into a full-bag contract, allowing him to play TaylorMade fairway woods and an Odyssey putter.

Like fellow Major champions Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama, Lowry does use Srixon irons (ZX5 and ZX7). He has been a long-time user of Cleveland wedges and currently plays the RTX ZipCore model, which we’re huge fans of here at TG.

Let’s take a closer look at the golfer equipment used by six-time DP World Tour winner Shane Lowry.

What driver does Shane Lowry use?

Shane Lowry uses a Srixon ZX5 MKII LS driver (9.5°) with a Mitsubishi Diamana White 70 X shaft

Price: £499.00/$499.00
In the hands of our test pro, just six yards of carry distance separated the ZX5 and our very longest drivers, plus the model produced our second smallest left-to-right dispersion (31.9 yards), so it will perform on the course.

It looks lovely, sounds great and there’s a touch of high launch draw bias built in. We’d play it, but in tough economic times, the price tag is hard to justify, especially knowing there are other excellent drivers out there for less.

What fairway woods does Shane Lowry use?

Shane Lowry uses a TaylorMade SIM2 fairway wood (15°) with a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX 80 TX shaft

Price: 279.00 / $349.99 RRP
Lowry sticks with what works for him and has therefore kept TaylorMade's older SIM2 3-wood in the bag over the more recent Stealth series of fairway woods. The Irishman additionally carries a TaylorMade M5 5-wood (19°) with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 X shaft.

What irons does Shane Lowry use?

Shane Lowry uses Srixon ZX5 (4-5) and ZX7 (6-PW) irons with KBS Tour 130 X shafts

Price: £149.50 / $170.00 RRP per club
Lowry uses a combination of Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 irons. We’ve rated Srixon irons very highly for many years. They have won numerous awards in our tests, and tend to be held in very high esteem amongst forged iron aficionados.

ZX5 - A player’s distance iron that offers forgiveness where it counts (in the mid and long irons) and control where you need it (short irons). A razor-sharp chassis gives a premium forged feel right along alongside the ball speed-enhancing tech that lots of club golfers crave.

ZX7 - A forged iron aimed at the lower handicap range. Srixon says the ZX7’s new Tour Cavity subtly shifts mass to the perimeter of the head whilst also concentrating mass behind the sweet spot. The idea gives slight assistance on off-center strikes, a soft feel, and the sort of workability that’s demanded by the world’s best players.

What wedges does Shane Lowry use?

Shane Lowry uses Cleveland RTX wedges (51°, 58°) with KBS Tour Wedge X Black finished shafts

Price: 139.00 / $169.99 RRP
Cleveland has a massive pedigree for making great wedges and the RTX 6 is their brand new tour-level offering for 2023. We’ll put our cards on the table upfront and say you won’t find a better-looking wedge on the market.

We love the compact size, the straight leading-edge profile, and the new super-aggressive CNC Milling pattern on the toe, which brings full-face groove levels of stopping power to traditional groove wedges.

Our best 2023 wedge test data has the ZipCore hovering just under average levels of backspin, but with so many factors to consider when buying new wedges, it’s worth remembering you should never just pick the highest spinning wedges.

What putter does Shane Lowry use?

Shane Lowry uses an Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball putter

Price: 199.00 / $199.00 RRP
“Legendary then, iconic now,” is how Odyssey promoted their line of White Hot OG putters, two decades after the famous face and renowned 2-Ball putters first found fame.

There have been dozens of 2-Ball variations over the years, and it’s still hugely popular. But try as hard as they have to move consumers, pros, and retailers into new face technology, golfers still yearned for a return to the soft but firm feel of the beloved White Hot insert. Odyssey even admits that more than half the putters they create for Tour players today still feature this insert.

What golf ball does Shane Lowry use?

Shane Lowry uses a Srixon Z-Star XV golf ball

The firmer XV is for 100+mph swing speeds and is played on tour by Hideki Matsuyama, Shane Lowry, Keegan Bradley, and Lucas Glover.

The 2023 model has a new three-piece construction, and it’s designed to fly higher and further than the standard Z-Star. Srixon like to say if your birdies start with a big tee shot then this is probably the ball for you.

Compared to the Z-Star Diamond the XV generates a little less mid-iron and wedge spin, but is also a little longer from the tee.
