Webster joins wilson staff

Steve Webster, the two-time European Tour winner from Nuneaton, has signed a contract with Wilson Golf that will see him play exclusively with the highly-rated Wilson Staff FG Tour irons next season.
The man who beat Tiger Woods to the amateur Silver Medal at the 1995 Open Championship at St Andrews began playing with the FG Tour irons during the summer of 2010. After seeing the performance benefits of the clubs – which are also played by multiple Major winner Padraig Harrington – Webster has now committed to the famous golf brand.
Speaking of his FG Tour irons, Webster said: “The distance control on the irons is amazingly consistent and I have lots of feel off the clubface for shot making.”
As well as playing with the full set of FG Tour irons (3-PW), Webster will have the Wilson Staff badge imprinted on his cap. His wins on the European Tour came at the Italia Open in 2005 and the inaugural Portugal Masters in 2007. He achieved nine top 20 finishes in 2008 and three runners-up spots in 2009. He also played on the winning teams in the Seve Trophy of 2002 and the 2009 Vivendi Trophy.
“We are delighted to have another top quality Tour player committing to Wilson Staff irons,” said Doug Wright, Business Director for Europe at Wilson Golf. “Steve has seen the performance benefits of the FG Tour irons for himself and we now hope they will help him to rise up the rankings in 2011.”
Webster joins a growing list of Tour players who have chosen Wilson Staff as their brand of choice for the new season. They include 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie, Englishman Anthony Wall, Sweden’s Fredrik Ohlsson and PGA Tour star Ricky Barnes, who recently re-signed with Wilson Staff after noticing a marked improvement since playing with the FG Tour irons.
