What we say...

The FootJoy Premiere Packard LX embodies golf’s luxury, with refined craftsmanship and an evolution that could make it one of the best shoes on the market.

The FootJoy Premiere Packard LX golf shoe embodies the luxury that makes this game so addictive. Built with craftsmanship at the highest level, this evolution of one of golf’s most iconic silhouettes could easily be one of the best golf shoes on the market.

But let’s be honest, looks are just one part of the story when it comes to picking a pair of golf shoes. So, I’ve put these to the test to see whether they can actually stand up to the high-performing competition.

The FootJoy Premiere series has always championed classic golf styling. And with casual, sneaker-inspired shoes taking over fairways year after year, you might think the old-school vibe is starting to lose its edge. Spoiler alert: it’s not. The tour adoption alone should stop any raised eyebrows, cementing the Premiere Packard LX among the best FootJoy golf shoes of 2025.

And I’ll say it now, this is the best-looking golf shoe in the game. Period. But does the hidden tech back up the timeless style? Let’s find out.

I tested these beauties in all conditions, hot, cold, wet, and dry, over the last six months. Mostly during casual rounds (and a few scrappy ones where the shoes were tested harder than my short game). Here’s how they stacked up.

Pros

  • Nothing comes close to this shoe in regards to style and design
  • Improvement to previous models
  • Impressive waterproofing

Cons

  • Comfort doesn't quite live up to expectations

Comfort: 3.5/5

On paper, these should be plush. Enhanced collar padding, mesh linings for breathability, and a supportive EVA midsole. It all sounds like comfort heaven. But for my feet, it just didn’t quite land.

The Premiere series has always leaned firm, and that carried over here. The heel padding, in particular, left me wanting more. I felt secure, yes, but when you’ve had your fair share of golf-related injuries like me, you want your shoes to feel like body armor and slippers.

To their credit, the leather did soften up after about five rounds, as most leather shoes do. But compared to other models like the FootJoy HyperFlex or adidas Tour360 golf shoes, the Packard LX just isn’t in the same comfort league.

Performance: 4.5/5

This is where the Packard LX shines. The VersaTrax+ traction system gave me excellent grip, even in downright miserable weather. No slipping, no sliding, no excuses.

I’ve spoken to FootJoy a lot this year, and they’re heavily pushing ground-force tech to help golfers generate speed.

That innovation feels more obvious in the HyperFlex, which is why I’m docking half a point here. But don’t get me wrong, the Packard LX performed brilliantly, keeping me stable, confident, and just a little bit quicker through the swing.

Durability: 5/5

Here’s the pleasant surprise: after six months of abuse (including some crawling around bunkers I’d rather not talk about), they still look stunning. Easily the best-looking golf shoes I’ve ever owned.

The leather has held up incredibly well, with only minor heel wear, which I suspect is more down to sizing than build quality.

FootJoy also offers a one-year waterproof warranty, and the Packard LX lived up to it in showers and chilly conditions. I wouldn’t recommend them for the deepest, muddiest days of winter golf, but for most of the year? Rock solid.

Style and Design: 5/5

If I could give this a 6/5, I would. These are golf shoes you almost want to frame instead of wear.

The detailing is immaculate: full-grain leather, bison texturing, refined nubuck saddle, it’s all there. They’re the definition of understated luxury, the “less is more” approach that actually hides an incredible amount of detail.

Yes, you sacrifice a bit of comfort for more cushioned, modern shoes. But that’s the trade-off for tradition, style, and prestige. And honestly, I’m okay with that.

Technology and Features: 5/5

FootJoy has packed the Packard LX with all the premium tech you’d expect at this level. The upper is made from hand-selected full-grain leather with bison texturing and a refined nubuck saddle, treated with LifeShield waterproof protection for a one-year guarantee.

Underfoot, the supportive EVA midsole combines with an OrthoLite EcoPlush FitBed to deliver cushioning and stability. At the same time, the VersaTrax+ outsole utilizes multi-directional TPU traction elements in both hard and soft durometers to provide easy grip on various surfaces.

Added touches like collar padding and soft lambskin linings round out the design, giving the shoe that extra layer of refinement. Even if some of the comfort didn’t quite come through in my testing, you can’t fault the level of technology FootJoy has packed into these shoes.

Final Verdict: 4.5/5

The FootJoy Premiere Packard LX isn’t perfect; comfort could be better, but it’s still one of the finest golf shoes you can buy in 2025.

If you want classic style, premium craftsmanship, and tour-proven performance, these are hard to beat. They’re not for everyone, but if you’re after golf shoes that look as good as they play, FootJoy has nailed it.

Other brands can compete on comfort or modern looks. But when it comes to style and tradition? The Packard LX stands alone.
