What’s In The Bag: Kurt Kitayama

We take a look at what’s in the bag of the DP World Tour and PGA Tour winner Kurt Kitayama.

Kurt Kitayama has traveled the globe to climb the golfing ladder. The Californian has played all across America, Europe, and Asia since turning pro in 2015, competing on Korn Ferry Tour and Asian Tour before gaining his DP World Tour card through Q-School in 2019.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

His first win came in only his third start at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open with his second quickly following at the Oman Open in just his 11th start. It made Kitayama the fastest player to have two wins in the tour’s history.

In 2021 he gained a PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour finals and went on to finish 3rd at the Honda Classic and 2nd at the Mexico Open in 2022.

But 2023 has really seen Kitayama’s career explode with victory over a world-class field at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. The American held off a chasing pack that included Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, and Patrick Cantlay to lift the trophy and rocket into the OWGR top 20.

He became the first player since Robert Gamez in 1990 to win on his debut at the tournament and was the first-ever winner at Bay Hill to tie/lead both fairways hit and greens in regulation.

Kitayama and TaylorMade

Kurt Kitayama is a TaylorMade staff player having joined the brand in 2019 and he uses a full bag of the brand’s clubs along with the TP5x golf ball.

The American has spent time with the TaylorMade Tour team during practice rounds to dial in spin rates and yardages on his Stealth 2 fairway woods. He’s also switched from a Stealth 2 10.5° driver to Stealth 2 Plus 10.5° driver, which produced more consistent spin rates in testing.
