What the Open weather will be doing
Published: Last updated:
The Open Championship is the oldest golf tournament in the world and nothing challenges the pro’s more than a Links course such as Royal St Georges.
Weather can make or break a champion, look at reigning champ Louis Oosthuizen who last year at St Andrews could not believe his luck when the wind dropped off allowing him to post a blistering 65 and win the Claret Jug.
This preview from www.LatestGolfWeather.com highlights what the weather conditions are going to be and who the likely contenders are.
Thursday
Good golf conditions and a great day for the players to ease into the competition however players teeing off later in the day will find themselves with a big advantage as the wind drops off completely and the sun comes out. Passive
afternoon conditions should see some low scores posted.
Friday
A warm day with the threat of a few showers however the more passive conditions will be reversed from the following day favouring the morning tee times. That said conditions are good for golf and a course of the quality of Royal St Georges will still be a tough challenge.
Saturday
After making the cut you’d be forgiven for patting yourself on the back for making the weekend however its going to get a whole lot more difficult from here on in as conditions take a turn for the worst. Whilst remaining warm, players teeing off in the morning could be faced with heavy rain and high winds which could potentially ruin their chances.
Sunday
Today someone will be crowned champion and its likely they would have faced varying conditions from warm sunshine through to heavy rain and stiff winds to get there. In essence, the perfect conditions to ensure a great spectacle. Sunday should see good golfing weather with patch rain/sunshine and a stiff breeze ensuring whoever wins will have deserved to be Open Champion 2011.
