In search of that silver bullet to give your game the edge this year? Today’s Golfer has hand-picked our favorite golf accessories to complement your game in 2023.
While most of us can’t swap out the driver or putter every time we have a bad round, we can at least get straight back to the drawing board by practicing with some of the best golf training aids or investing in some of the best golf accessories to help get your game back on track.
Whilst all you really need to play golf is a club and a ball (ideally a few items of clothing too), the best golf accessories make the game infinitely more enjoyable, effortless and should help with making your scorecard a little less complicated to add up in the bar as well.
Best At A Glance
No longer are gloves, tees, and umbrellas the main players in the accessories market. With technology becoming increasingly integral in the game at all levels, laser rangefinders, GPS watches, and an array of training aids are now staples within the modern-day golfers’ bag.
Unfortunately, for every game-changing golf accessory, there’s another that’s a waste of time and money (toilet putting green, anyone?). Before you buy any golf accessory, ask yourself what it will bring to your game, and be honest about how often you will use it. That should help you establish whether the cost is a worthwhile investment or whether you’d be better off using your money elsewhere.
To help you pick the best golf accessories for your game, we’ve tested countless products and picked our favorites in several key categories. See more about how TG tests golf products.
Best Golf Accessories: Training Aids
Even the truly golf-obsessed among us spend more time at home than we do at the golf course. So, if you want to give yourself the best chance of becoming a better ball striker, chipper, or putter, you need to find a way to practice at home. That’s where the best training aids come in handy, featuring putting mats, practice nets, alignment sticks, and more.

A quality-produced putting mat designed to perfect your pace
Best for distance control
The mat itself is of exceptional quality, and the lazy golfer will be particularly impressed by the wooden ramp that returns your ball to you after every putt. There are two target holes, one the size of a normal golf hole and one that’s a bit smaller. Both holes are placed atop a slight incline, which is designed to encourage you to be positive with your pace and should stop you from leaving putts agonizingly short out on the course. There is also plenty of alignment and visual aids to perfect your start line and stroke.
- Raised holes to encourage a good pace
- Alignment checkpoints
- Auto-ball return
- May be slightly quick for some used to slower greens
|Features||Alignment tracks, auto-ball return, two different-sized holes|
|Sizes||274 x 15 cm|
A useful alignment aid for medium to fast-paced greens
The 6ft mat is printed with alignment lines at 1ft intervals and pace targets, designed to enhance your visual feedback. The mat has been designed with usability in mind, rolling flat straight out of the packaging, and comes equipped with a black drawstring carry bag. While useful on its own, the mat can be combined with the PuttOut Pressure Putt Trainer, Putting Mirror, or Pro Putting Gates to create a complete putting practice package.
- Useful alignment and pacing markers
- Rolls out flat
- Choice of color options
- Designed for flat puts only
|Features||Alignment guide and distance markings|
|Size||240 x 50 cm|
|Colors||Green, Grey, Blue|
A fun target-based driving net to keep you motivated and improve your swing
Best practice net for motivation
We suggest you take the ‘pitch’, ‘chip’, and ‘lob’ labels with a pinch of salt and instead focus on adapting your swing to practice low, medium, and high-flighted shots.
It was fast and easy to set up and comes complete with a ground sheet and securing pegs to ensure a safe and secure practice environment.
The net is bigger than average with the same dimensions as the Links Choice Practice Net and is made from a lightweight, yet strong fiberglass frame.
The novel targets justify the extra money in our opinion, but feel free to explore our extended range of nets in our best golf practice nets 2023.
- Fun use of targets
- Easy set-up and secure
- Come with useful golf tips
- No artificial mat included
|Dimensions||214cm Height, 305cm Width, 153cm Depth|
|Use||Indoor and Outdoor|
A perfect pre-round practice tool to lock in your grip
Short, repeated practice with a grip trainer forces proper hand placement on every swing, creating better mechanics for a more smooth and consistent stroke. Being so small, it can be kept in your bag so you're never without it when needed.
- Works effectively with all hand sizes
- Attaches to the majority of clubs
- Perfect for pre-round practice
- Built for right-hand golfers
|Dimensions||0.71 x 7.87 x 4.49 inches|
Best Golf Accessories: Rangefinders
While many will opt for the speed and useability provided by GPS handheld devices, trolleys, Apps, and watches, nothing beats rangefinders for sheer accuracy of yardage to the flag. That is why you will see the World’s leading players and caddies carrying lasers to check their distances during practice rounds, and now they can even be used at the PGA’s three Major Championships – the PGA Championship, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, and KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.

The most accurate and consistent rangefinder Bushnell has produced
The Tour V6 is accurate to within one yard with up to 1,300-yard range performance (400+ yards to a flag) and six-times magnification.
The IPX6 weather-resistant device features Bushnell’s PinSeeker with Visual JOLT Technology which encircles the flag with a flashing, vibrating red ring to give you even greater confidence that you have locked onto the pin.
Slope-adjusted technology can conveniently be switched on and off to conform with tournament regulations, and Bushnell's exclusive BITE technology allows golfers to securely attach their rangefinder to a golf cart or trolley.
The Tour V6 comes with a premium carry case, a three-volt battery, and a ball marker.

A premium performing rangefinder at an unbeatable price point
Best value rangefinder
Distances are impressively quick and accurate. I compared the Pro L2 with my playing partner’s Bushnell across 18 holes and the Pro L2 was always within a yard of its more expensive rival and fired back the distance in an equally impressive time.
Shot Scope’s adjustable focusing ring ensures you can bring any target into sharp view, or adjust the device to suit your eyesight, and the ability to swap between sloped and non-sloped distances at the flick of the side switch ensures the Pro L2 is usable in competitions.
It’s a compact rangefinder (about two-thirds the length of my iPhone 14 Pro and half the width), but the rippled texture to the outer casing meant I never felt at risk of losing grip, and I was able to get measurements easily using just one hand.
For those of you who use buggies, the Pro L2 has a ridiculously strong magnet, allowing you to attach it to the side of your cart.
Overall, if there’s a better rangefinder at this price than the Shot Scope Pro L2, I’m yet to use it.

The lightweight, premium golf watch that does it all
Best overall golf watch
All of this is great but when it comes to golf this is where the S70 excels, with over 43,000 preloaded courses it's going to be harder finding a course it doesn't work at than one it does. The touchscreen AMOLED display is super easy to read and is up there with the best I've used, with the green and course views looking the way they do, they could be on the latest PGA TOUR game and you wouldn't question it.
The style of the watch makes a perfect partner for any outfit and is super comfortable, I didn't even know I was wearing it at one point. An awesome feature is the yardage adjustment taking into consideration the environmental changes and the elevation of the green for super precise distances, and with the green contour data if you're good enough it shows you the perfect place to land for the best results.
- High-quality screen
- Great hole displays
- Works well on and off the course
- Takes a while to learn how to navigate
|Number of courses:||43,000+|
|Battery life:||14 days in smartwatch mode and up to 15 hours in GPS mode|

A fantastic second-tier launch monitor for those not looking at a Trackman or GC Quad
Best second-tier launch monitor
It captures all the core metrics – distance (carry), swing speed, ball speed, back spin, side spin, and more. For a fraction of the cost of the top-end devices, you also get an immediate 3D display of your ball trajectory.
The makers of Skytrak also claim a high level of accuracy using a combination of radar and algorithms and if you are hitting into a net at home, all devices have to ‘calculate’ shot distance and trajectory rather than track the full path of the ball.
It also hooks up to your tablet or computer so you get immediate readouts. You could be hitting balls in your back garden into a net off a mat, ensuring your practice sessions will never be the same again.
SkyTrak has also teamed up with market-leading golf computer game developers World Golf Tour. For an added subscription you can play some of the most famous golf courses in the world from your back garden, including Pebble Beach and St Andrews.
- Very user friendly
- Makes practice great fun
- Chance to play famous courses from home
- Not as thorough as top-end launch monitors

Best Golf Accessories: Gloves
The humble golf glove might not seem particularly important, but when you consider that your hands are the only part of you that touches the golf club and that the hand you’ll be wearing your glove on plays the biggest role in your grip, you start to realize why picking out the best golf glove for you is worth some thought.

Most popular golf balls in professional golf
Based on these balls being so popular I'm sure you are well aware of how well they perform. The Pro V1s are exceptional from tee to green, providing long distance and incredible spin and control around the greens. The flight of these golf balls is very stable and lower than other premium golf balls. Titleists' premium golf balls do come at a cost, although to many it's warranted.
If you prefer a golf ball with a firmer feel try Titleist's Pro V1x golf balls which are also extremely popular and successful on Tour. Check out the specs for a full comparison.

The Tour golf ball with multiple models to assist with alignment and visibility
Depending on your swing speed will influence whether you should play with the Chrome Soft X or if the Chrome Soft would benefit your game more. The Chrome Soft X is best suited to those with quicker swing speeds. Whereas the X options are tailored to those with quicker swing speeds. If you do have a quick swing speed and choose to game this ball you will notice exceptional distance and ball flight off the tee. Around the greens the Chrome Soft X is incredibly receptive with a slightly firmer feel than the original Chrome Soft (but not firm by any stretch).
Recently introduced to the Chrome Soft range are the alignment and visibility options which can help to enhance your performance and help you lower scores. My personal favorite is the 360° Triple Track because it makes lining up putts slightly easier (not that I hole them).
If you think the Chrome Soft X might not be the best premium Callaway golf ball for you, have a look at the comparisons of specifications to determine which ball will work best for you.

An exceptionally durable Tour golf ball
Every golf ball in the Z-Star range is suited most to golfers with quicker swing speeds - because of the higher compression. Perhaps the best in this range is the Z-Star XV because of its all-round versatile performance. These balls are incredibly durable for a premium golf ball, which is something you don't always find. Playing with a durable golf ball could save you money and shots.
For a full comparison of the Srixon Z-Star range of golf balls have a look at the specifications. If you struggle to see your ball or lining it up on the greens the Z-Star Divide is available in half yellow, half white.

A golf ball aimed at better amateur golfers with a premium feel and performance
The Tour Response features technology found in TaylorMade’s TP5/TP5x range – their premium range of golf balls. Making these balls an incredible option for club golfers who want a premium product without paying the premium price. The only downside I have noticed with the Tour Response is off the tee it is not as long off the tee as other more expensive alternatives because of the 70 compression. However, as someone who doesn't necessarily struggle with distance, I prefer the feel and visual assistance the Stripe version offers.

You only have to look at the final round of the 2023 Open Championship to see the value of a quality golf umbrella.

Oakley's Prizm lens technology enhances color and contrast, making everything that much more defined on the course. The plutonite-constructed lenses are lightweight and block out harmful rays.

"Iceman" Stenson credits his nearly 20/20 eyesight to his commitment to eye protection throughout his career and has been fine-tuning his range of frames and lenses since launching the brand in 2017 to strike a balance between performance and style.
I found the Stinger 3.0 frames to be ultra-light, flexible and stayed firmly in position with their three-point grip, enhanced by a soft-touch rubber formula.
The anti-scratch high-definition lens gave an exceptional visual experience, enhancing color and contrast that enabled easy ball tracking and helped with reading breaks on the green.

Best Golf Accessories: Buying Guide
What are the factors you should bear in mind when choosing one of the best golf accessories? Here are some of the key things we think you should consider:
Firstly, have a quick stock-take of your current golfing setup to see where the gaps exist, and then think about which ones would make the biggest difference to your game if you were to fill it. Perhaps you are void of any training aids to help you refine your swing or putting stroke at home. Alternatively, maybe you’re missing a distance-measuring device to help inform your club selection, or maybe you simply want to add some personality to your wardrobe. Wherever the gaps are, hopefully, this guide and our other more detailed reviews will help you plug them.
Just because they are loosely termed ‘accessories’ doesn’t mean you should expect less than excellent quality. This guide to the best golf accessories has hand-picked our ‘best of the best’ from each category to bring to you what we consider to be the best value for money for different budgets based on quality and performance.
From tees costing a few bucks, to launch monitors costing thousands, individual budgets for golf accessories will vary enormously. As mentioned at the top of this guide, you need to ask yourself what a particular accessory will add to your game, and once identified, research thoroughly to make sure it will serve the purpose you require it for and then search for the best deal available.
There are not many golfers who would select their new driver based on a favorite color or choice of pattern. The golf accessories market is slightly unique however in the respect that fun and personality can factor into your buying decisions (permitting we’re not talking about fancy launch monitors and GPS watches for example). Many manufacturers appreciate that golfers want to express their personalities on the course, which explains why even golf balls are looking funkier than ever, like the TaylorMade TP5 Pix. Novelty headcovers are another great way of adding some fun to your bag providing they protect your clubs from getting damaged of course.
While Amazon would not be our first port of call for golf clubs, it is definitely a great option when it comes to searching for deals on the best golf accessories. We are constantly updating our guide to the best golf deals on Amazon so be sure to check this out too.
Best Golf Accessories: FAQs
What do I need for a round of golf?
Essentially, all you need for a round of golf are a selection of clubs of varying lofts (including a putter), some golf balls, and appropriate clothing to meet the rules of the course you are playing on. Of course, there are a host of golfing accessories that will help make your golfing experience more enjoyable and comfortable, some of which include umbrellas, distance measuring devices, gloves, training aids, performance apparel, and more.
What are the best golf accessories?
The best golf accessories are the ones that are used the most and not left in the bottom of your golf bag to only be rediscovered years later. Some accessories will be a staple in most set-ups such as tees, towels, and gloves, but others will be dependent on the preferences of individual golfers. For example, some may prefer a GPS watch to a laser rangefinder, some may choose to practice at home with putting mats and practice nets, and some will continually update their wardrobe with new caps, belts, and other items of golf apparel.
What is the difference between laser and GPS golf rangefinders?
While laser and GPS rangefinders aim to provide you with the information you require to make better-informed shot selections, they achieve this outcome in slightly different ways. GPS data (Global Positioning System), is provided from the availability of satellite data, and while being great for providing instantaneous distances on the fly, they lack the pinpoint accuracy that laser rangefinders can provide.
How many golf balls does a golfer need?
Golf balls are generally available to purchase as a dozen. The majority of golfers will buy one or two boxes at a time. However, there is no harm in bulk buying golf balls – especially if you know you like them. Bulk-buying golf balls has become more accessible through direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands which tend to offer a reduced price when you buy multiple boxes. There are other options; subscription services, or waiting for special offers. One thing I always say is golfers can never have too many golf balls (unless your bag starts getting a little too heavy).
